Oh GOD. What if this is something Lucifer actually does? He picks songs he KNOWS will fuck with Sam’s head.

This is the one he sings in the mornings when Sam’s first waking up, in that in-between haze of dreams and reality so that when Sam hears it it might as well be 2008 again, and he wakes up looking around corners for poor drivers, loose pianos, and the seemingly innocent dog.

It’s the song Lucifer hums on Tuesdays that makes Sam remember the smell of strawberry syrup and the words, “Nothing good comes out of it. Just blood and pain,” and Sam knows, for the first time, that Gabriel was right.

It’s the song Lucifer belts out when they pass an old hotel in Indiana, and Sam hunches low in the driver’s seat of that week’s stolen car, and tries not to look when Lucifer holds up his bloodstained hands and grins, cold and cruel. He always looks.
